Did You Know?

The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District celebrates its 40th Anniversary in 2012! Three years may seem a long way off, but we already have big ideas for commemorating this important milestone: The District is planning to publish an anniversary edition coffee table book, featuring photography, art, and poetry celebrating the beauty and diversity of our open space preserves.

We invite artists to submit photography, artwork, or poetry for possible inclusion in this anniversary edition coffee table book. We are especially interested in submissions reflecting the wide range of habitats across District lands, including riparian, grassland, chaparral, and redwood environments. Potential format options for the book include organizing by season, region, habitat, or geography (coastside, ridgetop, bayland).

Submission Highlights

1. Only photos uploaded to Flickr via our Photo Contest (past and present) will be considered for inclusion in the coffee table book. The photo contest deadline was December 6, 2009.
   
   
2. Artwork (excluding photographs) and poetry submissions are open to all participants, including youth artists, from Kindergarten to Grade 12. For children interested in submitting artwork or poetry, a consent form containing the consent of their parent or legal guardian to the Artwork & Poetry Submittal Terms and Conditions and to the Legal Conditions will need to accompany their submissions.
   
   
3. For poetry submissions, there are no restrictions on style.
   
   
4. Artwork submissions provided in digital format are preferred, however arrangements can be made to transfer to digital format if needed.
   
   
5. If you choose to include people in your submission, you are responsible for obtaining the necessary releases from the individuals depicted, and must be able to provide copies of those releases to the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District upon request.
   
   
6. If you are interested in submitting artwork or poetry for the coffee table book, please complete and return an interest form, which will help us survey general level of interest and assist with project planning. Submission of this form does NOT obligate the artist to submit artwork or poetry for this project.
   
   
7. Incremental deadlines for submission of artwork or poetry to be arranged with the artist.
   
   
8. A panel of District staff will review artwork and poetry submissions for possible inclusion in the District’s coffee table book. Selected artwork will be featured in the book, along with a brief caption provided by the artist describing the story behind the art.
   
   
9. Employees and current Board members of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District are not eligible to participate.
