Grabtown Gulch Trail Repair + Bridge
The 1998 "El Nino" winter storms caused unprecedented levels of damage to District roads and trails, including a major bridge washout on Grabtown Gulch Trail at Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. Beginning in mid-August 2004, the District will begin construction activities to reconnect Grabtown Gulch Trail to Purisima Creek Trail. This Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)-funded project includes the assemblage and installation of a 6-foot wide bridge that spans 46 feet across the Grabtown Gulch drainage and construction of a short trail realignment. The original washed-out bridge that has been temporarily sitting along Purisima Creek Trail will be removed. The project is scheduled for completion in early October 2004.
