An Ode to our Volunteers

A big reminder from this past year is how essential it is for people to feel connected to each other and to nature, as well as to feel we are contributing to something greater than ourselves. As our world changed, it was no surprise when our inboxes filled with emails from Midpen volunteers asking how they might assist. Unfortunately, our programs were suspended for most of last year and people hoping to help were asked to simply look after themselves. While some of our long-term volunteers in ongoing programs have returned to their roles in the preserves, many remain on hiatus for now due COVID public health restrictions.

In celebration of National Volunteer Appreciation Week (April 18-24), join us in thanking our Midpen volunteers — retired professionals, students, working parents, extroverts and quiet wallflowers — all unique in who they are and the experiences and knowledge they bring to their role. The assistance that volunteers provide support our mission, help connect us with the community and provide a safe place for people to enjoy the healing benefits of nature as we work toward the shared goal of a healthier planet.

Learn more about our volunteer programs and check back this summer as we look to open our workday projects to a wider audience.
