Five-day extension of filing deadline to run for the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District’s Board of Directors

Los Altos, CA—The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) has extended the nomination deadline for five calendar days, to Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 5 p.m., for non-incumbent candidates to obtain and file nomination papers for the office of Director for Wards 1 and 6.

The California Elections Code Section 10516 allows for a five calendar day extension of the nomination period for non-incumbent candidates when an eligible incumbent fails to file or qualify for office by the August 12, 2022 deadline.

Contested seats will be decided by local voters in the general election on Tuesday, November 8, 2022. Generally, the wards include the following areas:

Ward 1 - Cupertino, Lexington Hills, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Saratoga
Ward 6 - Atherton, La Honda, Ladera, Loma Mar, Menlo Park, North Fair Oaks, Pescadero, Portola Valley, Redwood City, West Menlo Park, Woodside

Midpen is a California special district governed by a seven-member publicly elected board of directors. Board members serve a four-year term and represent a geographic ward of approximately equal populations. The board holds its regular public meetings on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month at 7 p.m.

Eligible board candidates must be registered voters residing within the ward they seek to represent and are required to gather signatures from 50 registered voters in their ward on a nomination form provided by Midpen’s clerk. Those interested can contact Midpen's clerk at 650-691-1200 or clerk@openspace.org to make an appointment to receive and review the required paperwork.
