Windy Hill Preserve
Approximate Total Miles
7.5

Enjoy a fall hike with sweeping views of the bay and the blue ribbon of the Pacific Ocean as you explore diverse habitats. Join Docent Naturalists Mari Aldridge and Ani Agahian on this moderately-paced climb up the Spring Ridge Trail (approximately 1,300 feet of gain over 2.75 miles) through rolling grasslands and occasional shady patches of oaks. You’ll arrive at the summit of Windy Hill and take a lunch break at the picnic tables. Massive moss-covered Douglas firs will greet you as you zigzag down the Hamms Gulch Trail. If time permits, you’ll explore Sausal Pond to look for turtles and dragonflies.

Where to Meet

The Lower Windy Hill Parking Area at the lower portion of the preserve is located on Portola Road. Please note: This parking lot fills quickly. Please do not park on Portola Road: parking is strictly enforced.
