Learn about living astride the “sleeping giant” with Docent Naturalists Dave and Judy Boore during an afternoon discussing the causes and consequences of earthquakes. Dave is an Emeritus Seismologist at the U.S. Geological Survey and enjoys sharing geology with others. You’ll hike along the San Andreas Fault Trail and explore evidence of seismic activity in two adjacent preserves. You’ll stop for discussion, sometimes extended (depending on weather and interest), with leisurely-paced walking in between. The route has minimal elevation change and is well suited for adults, interested teenagers, and those needing a less physically challenging outing.
Meet at Los Trancos Parking Area on Page Mill Road (across from Monte Bello Preserve), 7 miles west of I-280 or 1.5 miles east of Skyline Boulevard. Those traveling from I-280 on Page Mill Rd. should allow approximately 35 minutes travel time.
