Explorer Hike: The Workings of a Watershed

Wednesday, February 18, 2026
10:30 am - 2:30 pm
Picchetti Ranch Preserve
Approximate Total Miles
4.5

Join Docent Naturalists Kate Bauer, Mary Brunkhorst, and Nick Yatsko for a moderately-paced hike along the lovely Zinfandel Trail. Learn some of the ways a healthy watershed depends on the complex interactions between water, geology, soil, plants, and wildlife and in turn works to support a rich diversity of species, including humans. See firsthand some of the intriguing ways nature moves, stores, and conserves water to make the most of this life-giving resource. You'll have time to enjoy a lunch break on this out and back hike.

Where to Meet

Meet at the preserve parking lot on Montebello Road. From the intersection of I-280 and Foothill Expressway, go 3.5 miles southwest (toward the mountains) on Foothill Boulevard/Stevens Canyon Road.  Turn right on Montebello Rd.  The preserve is 0.5 miles up Montebello Rd. on the left.
