Explore the changes in bird populations at Sausal Pond with Docents Naturalists Melissa Hero, Chris MacIntosh, and Nick Yatsko. Each fall, many species of birds migrate from their breeding grounds to their wintering grounds. You'll be on the lookout for arriving winter resident ducks, sapsuckers, sparrows, waxwings and more, and learn about migration along the Pacific Flyway along the Sausal Pond Trail for a leisurely-paced walk with 230-foot elevation gain. Please bring binoculars if you have them.

Where to Meet

The Lower Windy Hill Parking Area at the lower portion of the preserve is located on Portola Road. Please note: This parking lot fills quickly. Please do not park on Portola Road: parking is strictly enforced.
