Join Docent Naturalists Nancy Weintraub, Laura Knott-Thomas, Helena Cohen, and Annie Guo on a scenic hike traversing four preserves in appreciation of tomorrow’s Indigenous Peoples' Day. Starting from Skyline Ridge Preserve, you'll enjoy a moderately-paced loop hike along the Bay Area Ridge Trail through Monte Bello, Coal Creek, and Russian Ridge preserves before returning to your starting point. On the path you’ll experience breathtaking views and diverse landscapes including shady mixed evergreen forests, canyons, and grassy ridges. You’ll learn how these lands were tended by the Ohlone before the arrival of settler-colonialists and why the land is protected as a public preserve today. This hike is for individuals who are comfortable with "long distance hiking”: a climb of 1200+ feet and a pace of 2.5 miles per hour.
Meet at the Skyline Ridge Circle Parking Area on Skyline Boulevard located one mile south of the Skyline Blvd. (Highway 35) and Page Mill/Alpine Road intersection. After entering the preserve, turn right and go to the farthest parking area. Those traveling from I-280 on Page Mill Rd. should allow approximately 45 minutes travel time.
