Fungal Fun

January 13, 2024
9:00 am - 4:00 pm
Purisima Creek Redwoods Preserve
Approximate Total Miles
7

Join the fun to find and focus on fungi with Docent Naturalists Chris MacIntosh, Marie Faust Evitt, and Lindsay Joye. See a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes grow underfoot (and sometimes overhead) on this moderately-paced, non-technical fungus appreciation hike. You'll train your eyes to notice the sometimes camouflaged but always fascinating fungi that flourish in winter. The rain (or lack of) will determine what fungi can be found. Bring stamina, curiosity, and a lunch. (Note: There are some very steep sections on the Whittemore Gulch and Harkins Ridge trails.)

Where to Meet

Meet at the North Ridge Parking Area on Skyline Boulevard.  This entrance is next to the now closed Kings Mountain Country Store.  The parking lot is 4.5 miles south of Highway 92, and 8.1 miles north of Highway 84.
