On this moderately-paced hike with Docent Naturalists Rae Collins, Inga Buyse and Dave Kocsis you'll walk along the famous San Andreas Fault and learn how its movement builds the landscape around you. You'll also discover an outcrop of rock that was once on the bottom of an ancient tropical ocean. A vast view from Black Mountain will reveal the entire story of moving mountains and the fault system at work in the Bay Area.
Note: Be prepared for a rapid hike on a continuous incline to Black Mountain.

Where to Meet

Meet at the Monte Bello Parking Area on Page Mill Road (across from Los Trancos Preserve), 7 miles west of I-280 or 1.5 miles east of Skyline Boulevard. Those traveling from I-280 on Page Mill Rd. should allow approximately 35 minutes travel time.
