Hiking the Highlights

Monday, November 2, 2026
10:00 am - 1:30 pm
El Corte de Madera Creek Preserve
Approximate Total Miles
4

Did you know that this forested preserve contains three unique features, along with all the other amazing flora and fauna to be found along its trails? Come learn about some of the natural and cultural history on this moderately-paced loop hike led by Docent Naturalists Ann McCarthy, Susan Dunn, and Sarah Schoen. While exploring the Fir, Sierra Morena, and other trails, you’ll visit the Methuselah Tree (an ancient redwood that’s nearly 2,000 years old), the Resolution Aircraft Memorial, and the tafoni sandstone formation. Bring your curiosity and a snack to share along the way.

Where to Meet

Meet at the Caltrans Skeggs Point Parking Area on the east side of Skyline Boulevard, about 4 miles north of La Honda Road (Highway 84) and 1.5 miles south of Kings Mountain Road.  Please note that Caltrans prohibits a left turn into the parking lot when approaching from the north along Skyline Blvd.

To ensure your experience on a docent naturalist outing is enjoyable please review these activity guidelines.
