Observe and discover some of the plants and animals making their home along the stretch of trail between Horseshoe Lake and Alpine Pond. Led by Docent Naturalists Olga and Tony Bright, this beautiful, moderately-paced route travels the Horseshoe Loop, Sunny Jim, and Alpine Loop trails with approximately 600 feet of elevation change. You’ll have time to sit at the picnic areas near the water to enjoy a snack or lunch, likely in the company of songbirds, ducks, and coots. (Note: Hiking poles recommended if you like to use them.)

Where to Meet

Meet at the Skyline Ridge Circle Parking Area on Skyline Boulevard located one mile south of the Skyline Blvd. (Highway 35) and Page Mill/Alpine Road intersection. After entering the preserve, turn right and go to the farthest parking area. Those traveling from I-280 on Page Mill Rd. should allow approximately 45 minutes travel time.
