How Flowers Changed the World (REVISED LOCATION)

Friday, April 24, 2026
9:30 am - 12:30 pm
Picchetti Ranch Preserve
Approximate Total Miles
3

Please note: This hike is now at Picchetti Ranch Preserve, not Monte Bello Preserve as originally advertised. Reservations are no longer required.

Explore the Zinfandel and Bear Meadows trails, beloved for the springtime wildflowers that grow along their edges. Join Docent Naturalists Maureen Draper, Susan Bernhard, Noa Doitel, and Ann Reisenauer on this leisurely-paced hike to learn how flowers evolved through the ages into the beauties you see today. Smack in the middle of spring, you’ll be guaranteed to encounter some colorful examples “in the petal" and be inspired by the innovations of the botanical realm.

Where to Meet

Meet at the preserve parking lot on Montebello Road. From the intersection of I-280 and Foothill Expressway, go 3.5 miles southwest (toward the mountains) on Foothill Boulevard/Stevens Canyon Road.  Turn right on Montebello Rd.  The preserve is 0.5 miles up Montebello Rd. on the left.
