King Tides Walk

January 22, 2023
10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Stevens Creek Shoreline Nature Area
Approximate Total Miles
3

Join Docent Naturalists Bobbie Riedel, Melissa Hero, and Nick Yatsko at high tide along the boardwalk and overlook platforms during a king tides event. These tides, expected to get up to 9 feet, often force rare birds out of hiding. Two of your docents are expert birders and will assist with observations in the marshlands. You’ll also learn about the phenomenon of king tides and tidal systems.
(Note: Wear waterproof shoes. Bring your phone or camera if you’d like to participate in the California Coastal Commission King Tide Project to help experts visualize future sea levels, and create a record of changes to our coast https://www.coastal.ca.gov/kingtides/).

Where to Meet

Meet in the “Kite Area” parking lot at Shoreline-at-Mountain View Park. From Highway 101, take Shoreline Boulevard east to the Shoreline Park entrance.  After passing the entrance kiosk, turn right into the parking lot.

To ensure your experience on a docent naturalist outing is enjoyable please review these activity guidelines.

If your activity requires registration, please be sure to cancel your reservation (from your confirmation email) if you are no longer able to attend so others can participate.

After your participation on a guided activity please share your feedback — your input is meaningful to our volunteers and program staff – thank you!
