Knock off work early and explore how native peoples who have lived in this area for thousands of years took care of the land before the arrival of Europeans. Join Docent Naturalists Marie Faust Evitt, Catherine Crawford-Swent, Ann McCarty, and Bobbie Riedel for a moderately-paced hike along the beautiful Ipiwa, Alpine Loop, and Sunny Jim trails. Discover how native peoples use strategies such as controlled burns and regular pruning to nurture plants and ensure abundant food and materials for homes, baskets, and medicine. Bring a snack or dinner for a picnic at Alpine Pond. You’ll return to the parking area by sunset.
