In all of Midpen's 26 preserves, only two sit atop outcrops of serpentinite, California's emblematic, enigmatic blue-green state rock. The rare serpentine soil meadow of the destination sports uniquely adapted native grasses and flowers, many of them endemic to the area. Join Docent Naturalists Frances Reneau, Sabra Abraham, and Helena Cohen on this out-and-back route. This special access hike is located in the closed Rancho de Guadalupe section of this preserve. There is an option of a climb of Guadalupe Rock for the adventurous souls.

Reservations are required and will be accepted on or after April 14 at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) and close April 28 at 2:00 p.m.

Where to Meet

Meet at the VTA Park & Ride lot at Camden Avenue @ Highway 85. Docents will lead a carpool to the access area and have a group permit and parking passes for participants. Please arrive on time; the group will depart promptly. All participants must stay for the duration of the activity (no early departures in a closed area). Please note: there are no restrooms in VTA lot, nor the Preserve, so please plan accordingly. Thank you.
