Old Growth, New Growth

El Corte de Madera Creek Preserve
Approximate Total Miles
7.5

Visit both the Methuselah Tree and another old-growth redwood in a secluded part of this forested preserve. On this vigorously-paced hike with Docent Naturalists Susan Dunn, Catherine Xun, and Nick Yatsko, you’ll follow the Methuselah Trail to the Giant Salamander Trail to see how rain brings this green habitat to life with fungi, ferns, and perhaps even amphibians. Pause for a lunch or snack at the second old-growth redwood tree before climbing up the Gordon Mill Trail to return to the parking area.

Where to Meet

Meet at the El Corte de Madera Parking Area located on the west side of Highway 35 (Skyline Boulevard), about one mile south of the Caltrans Skeggs Point parking area and 2.7 miles north of the intersection of Highway 35 and Highway 84.
