Winter is the perfect season to explore the redwood forest in search of spore-forming inhabitants—think fungi, hornworts and liverworts, lichen, and ferns! Join Docent Naturalists Sabra Abraham and Lindsay Joye for a moderately-paced hike along the Gordon Mill, Timberview, Methuselah, Fir, and Sierra Morena trails. There will be a quick lunch break along the way. By the hike’s end, your eyes will be more attuned to these fascinating but often overlooked organisms.

Where to Meet

Meet at the El Corte de Madera Parking Area located on the west side of Highway 35 (Skyline Boulevard), about one mile south of the Caltrans Skeggs Point parking area and 2.7 miles north of the intersection of Highway 35 and Highway 84.

To ensure your experience on a docent naturalist outing is enjoyable please review these activity guidelines.
