Hitchhiker and helicopter seeds? Jack-o'-lantern fungi? Earthstars? Come explore the fascinating world of seeds and spores with Docent Naturalists John Seyfarth and Olga and Tony Bright on a leisurely-paced hike from the Willowbrook-Alpine Roadside Parking Area to the Meadow and Coal Mine Ridge trails. You’ll search for seeds and fungi, learn about how they spread, and discover the innovative strategies that help the next generation take root. (Notes: There is a picnic area available at the nearby Portola Valley Town Center for optional lunch afterwards. There will be another version of this hike, looking for different fungi on different trails, on January 8.)
From Interstate 280, exit Sand Hill Rd. west. Follow Sand Hill Rd. for approximately 1.9 miles, after which it becomes Portola Rd. Stay on Portola Rd. for another 2.6 miles.
