Surviving Paradise

If you like warm, dry weather, the Bay Area’s climate is almost paradise: Sunny days and no rain for months! But how do plants, rooted in the ground and unable to run into an air-conditioned building or to the beach, cope with this extended drought? Join Docent Naturalists Sabra Abraham and Lindsay Joye for a leisurely-paced hike to discuss some of the various strategies plants have evolved over the eons to survive, and even thrive, during six months without rainfall. You’ll get to visit several habitats along the White Oak, Skid Road, and Stevens Creek Nature trails while exploring these adaptations.

Where to Meet

Meet at the Monte Bello Parking Area on Page Mill Road (across from Los Trancos Preserve), 7 miles west of I-280 or 1.5 miles east of Skyline Boulevard. Those traveling from I-280 on Page Mill Rd. should allow approximately 35 minutes travel time.

To ensure your experience on a docent naturalist outing is enjoyable please review these activity guidelines.
