Explore three distinct habitats—grassland, riparian, mixed woodlands—on this moderately-paced loop hike led by Docent Naturalists Anouchka Gaillard, Peter Maxwell, and Nick Yatsko. This counterclockwise route begins on the Betsy Crowder Trail before meeting up with the Spring Ridge Trail, which you’ll then follow up to Skyline Boulevard. From there, appreciate the view at the top of Windy Hill via the Anniversary Trail. Finally, you’ll close the loop by returning to the parking area along the Lost and Hamms Gulch trails. This fun trek includes 1,500 feet of elevation change. What wildlife and early winter changes will you see? Bring a picnic lunch for a stop along the way.

Where to Meet

The Lower Windy Hill Parking Area at the lower portion of the preserve is located on Portola Road. Please note: This parking lot fills quickly. Please do not park on Portola Road: parking is strictly enforced.
