Have you ever wondered what the newts are up to or where they live during the winter? Join Docent Naturalists Roberta and Jaime Cavazos and Paul Billig on a leisurely-paced search for these cute, charismatic creatures. You’ll explore the Zinfandel, Orchard, and Vista trails to learn where they might be hiding while waiting for Picchetti Pond to fill up from the seasonal rain. Bring a light snack to enjoy as you look for these local amphibians.

Where to Meet

Meet at the preserve parking lot on Montebello Road. From the intersection of I-280 and Foothill Expressway, go 3.5 miles southwest (toward the mountains) on Foothill Boulevard/Stevens Canyon Road.  Turn right on Montebello Rd.  The preserve is 0.5 miles up Montebello Rd. on the left.
