Celebrate the Winter Solstice with Docent Naturalists Susan Dunn and Nancy Weintraub at the POST Council Circle at Mindego Hill—a donor recognition site that includes a solar calendar feature aligned with astronomical events. You’ll hike to the Circle to see your shadow act as part of the observatory at noon, then have time for a snack before climbing to the top of Mindego Hill for a 360-degree view. You’ll learn how POST and Midpen have worked together to ensure this landscape has remained wild habitat and will be preserved in perpetuity. Though the amount of elevation gain makes this hike strenuous, it will be moderately-paced.

Where to Meet

Meet at the Mindego Gateway Parking Area on Alpine Road.  From I-280, exit Page Mill Road and head west. Drive about 9 miles to the junction with Skyline Boulevard, cross over Skyline Blvd. and on to Alpine Road. Continue on Alpine Rd. for 1.5 miles. Parking area is on the right. Allow 45 minutes travel time from I-280.
