Winter Wonders - Banana Slugs & More

Tuesday, December 8, 2026
10:00 am - 1:30 pm
El Corte de Madera Creek Preserve
Approximate Total Miles
3.5

Search for banana slugs, various other forest-loving animals, and winter’s wildflowers and other plants with Docent Naturalists Catherine Crawford-Swent, Marie Faust Evitt, and Lina Mesa on a moderately-paced hike along the El Corte de Madera Creek and Tafoni trails. You'll observe the effects of seasonal rain as well as the long-term role of water and other factors in creating tafoni formations in sandstone rock. Children who are able to hike the 3.5-mile distance are encouraged to join and enjoy this magical forested world. Bring a snack or lunch for a break.

Where to Meet

Meet at the Caltrans Skeggs Point Parking Area on the east side of Skyline Boulevard, about 4 miles north of La Honda Road (Highway 84) and 1.5 miles south of Kings Mountain Road.  Please note that Caltrans prohibits a left turn into the parking lot when approaching from the north along Skyline Blvd.
