Search for Lost Hiker in Windy Hill Open Space Preserve
Updated May 15, 2025 at 11 a.m.
The lower Windy Hill parking area on Portola Road will be CLOSED Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18 for continued missing person search operations for Margaret "Elaine" McKinley. Please expect to see increased law enforcement activity in the preserve. During this time, we recommend usage of the upper trailhead access points along Skyline Boulevard as an alternative entry into the preserve.
Our thoughts remain with Ms. McKinley’s family and her loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We urge anyone with information or sightings of Ms. McKinley to call 911.
We also extend our deepest gratitude to Midpen rangers who are working so tirelessly in the ongoing search, and we sincerely thank the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office as well as all the volunteers, partner agencies and community members involved in this effort.
Further updates from Midpen will be provided on this web page.
