After-Hours Astronomy Permit

A no-fee permit is required for after-hours use of select preserve parking lots for astronomical viewing. The parking lots are open for permit-only parking from one half-hour after sunset to 3:00 a.m., with the exception of the parking lots labeled with AUTO GATE, which must be accessed no later than sunset.

  1. The term "after-hours" is defined as one-half hour after official sunset to official sunrise the following day. The preserves are closed to the public during this time.
  2. No use of surrounding trails is allowed, and camping is prohibited.
  3. Fires and camp stoves of any type are prohibited.

If you are charging a fee for your event, you must provide an insurance certificate and endorsement listing the District as additionally insured.

Astronomy Permits During Perseids Meteor Showers

We are suspending after-hours permits for any preserves during the peak Perseids meteor showers from August 9-12. Crowd management and overall public safety on these nights is our priority, and managing individual permits on these nights is infeasible.
