What is the LHMP?
The San Mateo County Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) develops practical strategies to reduce damages to life, property, the environment, health and safety caused by potential natural and human-caused hazards in San Mateo County. By identifying and evaluating hazard risks and outlining mitigation actions to be implemented during a disaster, the LHMP helps cities, communities and agencies prepare for hazard events before they occur.
The LHMP was originally developed in 2021 through the collaborative effort of local governments and special districts in San Mateo County, including Midpen. These partnerships allow for stronger hazard preparedness and response coordination among the County, cities, towns, special districts, community organizations and residents.
What is happening with the LHMP?
The LHMP is currently being updated in accordance with Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) 2022 policy revisions. Part of this process includes gathering updated data and community knowledge about local hazards and existing mitigation action plans.
