Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Margaret MacNiven graduated from England’s Oxford University with a degree in zoology, and from the University of Manchester with a doctorate in biochemistry.  She moved to California with her husband, Jamis, in 1976 and worked at SRI in Menlo Park.  In 1977 they bought property on Long Ridge Road in the South Skyline area and started a family.  They raised three sons, all of whom still live in the Bay Area.

In 1991 Margaret and Jamis established Buck’s Restaurant in Woodside, which they operated until the pandemic struck in 2020.  When COVID restrictions were lifted, Buck’s reopened as a 2.0 version, with their sons at the helm.

As a person inspired to give back to her community, Margaret has served on several local educational and environmental nonprofit boards: Woodside Library, Green Foothills, Living Classroom, and Pie Ranch in Pescadero.

Margaret’s favorite pastime is being outdoors in nature.  She has hiked and biked many Bay Area trails, and ventured out as far away as up Mt. Whitney, down The Grand Canyon, and across England.
