Day on the Deck: Fungus and Amphibians of Fall

November 7, 2021
11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Skyline Ridge Preserve

Stop by the David C. Daniels Nature Center at Skyline Ridge Open Space Preserve for another Day on the Deck! Midpen interpretation and education staff, and docent volunteers will host a "pop-up" event on the deck overlooking Alpine Pond. With the first rainstorms of the season bringing much needed moisture to the ecosystems of the Santa Cruz mountains, many organisms are coming out from hiding. Amphibians such as California Newts and chorus frogs can be seen in many preserves, and a wonderful diversity of fungi are beginning to blossom from their underground networks. Come learn about some of these species at this Day on the Deck!

WORKING TOGETHER TO KEEP EVERYONE SAFER

We have missed having visitors to the Daniels Nature Center over the past year and a half and welcome the chance to spend time with you again. Please wear a face covering when you come to a Day on the Deck. We are asking that all visitors, regardless of vaccination status, adhere to this COVID-19 safety protocol. Thank you!

Please note that a Day on the Deck may be cancelled on short notice due to weather conditions (heat or rain), poor air quality, or mandated COVID-19 public health safety responses.

Where to Meet

Park at the Russian Ridge Preserve parking lot on the northwest corner of the Skyline Boulevard (Highway 35) and Page Mill/Alpine Road intersection (across Skyline Blvd. on the right). Walk to Alpine Pond at Skyline Ridge Preserve by going through the tunnel under Alpine Rd.  The Nature Center is a small gray building on the east shore of Alpine Pond.
