#OptOutside first launched in 2015. REI announced in October of that year that it would close its stores on Black Friday give its employees the day off to #OptOutside and encourage others around the country to skip the shopping lines and do the same. Even as "Black Friday" has changed over the years, the sentiment remains, we want to spend time outdoors with you.
Hike details: Event organizers will have giveaways, café and other treats. The hike will be around 3 miles and have 650ft in elevation gain, easy to moderate, but we will hike at a comfortable pace as a group.
We cannot guarantee parking, so please arrive early, the only parking area is Bear Creek Redwoods Alma Parking Area. Pets are NOT allowed. There are restrooms there. Parking is free.

Where to Meet
Meet at the Alma Parking Area. From Highway 17 take the Bear Creek Road exit, opposite Lexington Reservoir. (From southbound Hwy. 17, exit the highway and go under an overpass; road will curve right to a stop sign at Bear Creek Rd., turn left. From northbound Hwy. 17 exit highway and cross the highway via the overpass on to Bear Creek Rd.) Travel 1.0 mile from Hwy. 17 on Bear Creek Rd., as road curves left there will be a pedestrian crosswalk, turn left into the parking lot immediately after the crosswalk.
