As of January 2016, the District has purchased or protected 10,409 acres of open space and agricultural land in the coastal area, expanded its grazing program, added public access areas, and has service agreements for schools and fire protection. In 2014, voters passed Measure AA, a general obligation bond to further help preserve open space, provide appropriate public access, and assist with environmental maintenance projects.
