Midpen Invites You to Learn More About the La Honda Creek Preserve Forest Health Project at  Informational Open Houses on October 21 and 23

Published October 2, 2025

Forests throughout the Santa Cruz Mountains have been significantly altered by human activities including historic logging and fire suppression. In 2021, Midpen assessed the current conditions of La Honda Creek Open Space Preserve’s forests to determine the best management actions for improving forest health.

Midpen is currently in the process of creating a plan through the La Honda Forest Health Project to implement management actions according to the best available science that will restore and promote healthy, resilient, mature and old-growth forests; improve watershed health and function; enhance wildlife habitat and carbon storage; and increase the forest's resilience to fire, disease, and climate change.

Midpen is offering both an in-person and a virtual informational open house to share more about this project. Please drop by either session to learn more and provide your input.

In-Person: Tuesday, October 21, 2025 from 6 – 7:30 p.m.
Independence Hall, Woodside, CA (2955 Woodside Road, Woodside, CA 94062)

Stop by any time between 6 – 7:30 p.m. to learn more and share your thoughts and questions. There will be a brief presentation at 6 p.m., followed by an open house for informal discussions.

Virtual: Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 6 – 7:30 p.m.
Zoom link will be available on Midpen’s La Honda Forest Health Project web page at openspace.org/forest

Join the meeting at 6 p.m. for a brief overview of the project, followed by smaller breakout room sessions for Q&A. Late attendees can still attend the breakout room sessions if they miss the overview presentation.

For more information, please visit Midpen’s La Honda Forest Health Project webpage.

If you are unable to attend either the in-person or virtual open house, consider sharing your thoughts via the online form available on the project webpage through the end of November.
