Be the first to set foot on the Thimbleberry Trail, Midpen’s newest addition to the award-winning trail network at Bear Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve. Located in the northeast corner of Bear Creek Redwoods, the new trail provides a scenic connection from the Beaver Trail to the Oak Knoll Trail for hikers and equestrians.
The journey showcases a swift transition from a shaded, cool riparian corridor to an open, sun-drenched prairie. Masterfully carved into the hillside by our expert trail-building team, the path naturally ebbs and flows with the slope.
Since opening to the public in 2019, Bear Creek Redwoods has undergone significant trail expansion. The Thimbleberry Trail joins several new trails that opened to the public in November 2024 including Pete Siemens, Toad Hollow and Salamander Springs, increasing access to the naturally diverse and historically significant preserve.

Midpen staff were recently honored with a Merit Award for Development at the California Trails & Greenways conference hosted by California State Parks. The award recognizes the thoughtfully designed and constructed trail system which reduces long-term maintenance needs, complements the land and enriches visitor experience.
Thimbleberry Trail is one of many additions to Bear Creek Redwoods made possible by funding from Measure AA, a 30-year, $300 million general bond. Approved in 2014, Measure AA has increased the capacity for Midpen to complete large scale projects including the opening of Bear Creek Redwoods to the public.
