The District is divided into seven geographic wards, each represented by an elected official for a four-year term.

Anyone who is 18 years of age and who is a resident and registered voter in the ward from which they are nominated may run for a seat on the Board of Directors.
Potential candidates are required to gather fifty (50) valid signatures of registered voters from their ward on a required nomination form furnished only by the District Clerk.

Prior to soliciting or receiving campaign contributions, a candidate must file Form 501, Candidate Intention Statement, with the District Clerk. The form is available from the District Clerk. For additional information please email clerk@openspace.org.

November 3, 2026 Election

On November 3, 2026, the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) will hold a General Election for the following Board of Directors seats: Ward 1, Ward 2, Ward 5, and Ward 6. The nomination period for the November 3, 2026 General Election begins July 13, 2026, and closes at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 7, 2026. 

For Ward 6 the nomination period is extended by five (5) days to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, for non-incumbents only.  

Notice of Extension of Nomination Period - Ward 6

Notice is hereby given that the Nomination Period for non-incumbent candidates for Ward 6 of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District for the General Election on November 3, 2026, has been extended five days pursuant to Elections Code Section 10225 for the following office:

During the nomination period, the list below will be updated with candidates who pull papers to run for office and will be updated when candidates file their nomination papers. After nomination papers have been received and verified, the list will be updated with candidates who qualify for the November 3 election. The list will also reflect candidates who choose to withdraw their declaration of candidacy. The deadline to withdraw is Friday, August 7 at 5:00 p.m. if the filing period is not extended.

California Elections Code section 10515 requires that when the number of candidates who file for an office is less than or equal to the number of offices to be filled, the qualified candidates will be appointed in lieu of election.
